London has a wide choice of excellent camping and caravanning sites, though obviously most of these are a little way from the centre of the city. We have chosen some of the most convenient and those with the highest standards, but we would be grateful to hear of any more which you may know about.

This is a caravan park so electricity is available but no shop or cooking facilities. They do have laundry and washing facilities though. Rates vary according to the time of year. Backpackers £5 per tent winter, £7 summer, car £8/£10 Then £3.80 per adult winter, £5 summer.

Huge well equipped camping site set in 6 acres with sports centre and leisure complex with 12 screen cinema, swimming pool, golf course, kids' play area, 3 pubs and pizza restaurant. Acts as bus terminal for those going into town. There is a minimum charge for everyone £6.10 for adult or £2.60 for children 5-16, for individuals this goes up to £9.00 (i.e. one person and tent). Electricity is £2.50 per night. Charge for dogs and awnings £1.50. Another site is nearby at Sewardstone Road, Chingford, E4 7RA Tel 020-8529 5689, closed in winter.
