Clarendon Hotel -
Greenwich The
Clarendon Hotel was built in the 18th century when
Greenwich was perhaps the most powerful locations in the
world. Now the hotel offers the visitor an ideal base to
visit the famous sites of The Old Royal Observatory,
Wren's Royal Naval College, Indigo Jones' Queen's House,
the superb National Maritime Museum and the restored
Cutty Sark, the Millennium Dome, the dramatic Canary
Wharf and the amazing Thames Barrier.
Beneath the area are
remnants of the Tudor Palace of Henry VIII's birthplace,
where Elizabeth 1 despatched Sir Walter Raleigh and the
English Navy to battle the Spanish Armada. Sights such
as Buckingham Palace, The Tower of London, the
magnificent St. Paul's Cathedral, the West End of London
and the many theatres of the west end are only twenty
minutes away for trips further afield. There is in fact
so much to see and do you may not be able to fit it all
in! Blackheath Village and Greenwich offer a wide choice
of restaurants and famous pubs, yet the Clarendon is a
real favourite of locals and visitors as a place to eat,
drink and relax.
All bedrooms are all very
elegantly and comfortably appointed and tastefully
finished. Many offer a panorama of Blackheath, looking
towards Greenwich. All rooms are ensuite and centrally
heated. Digital television, direct telephone, tea
and coffee making facilities, plus the usuals such as
hairdryers and radios are standard features. The
Clarendon has rightly prided itself in its first rate
Room Service - it is renowned for quality and
promptness.
Blackheath and Greenwich
town have a wide choice of restaurants and pubs, but the
Meridian Restaurant at the Clarendon holds its own
against this high standard of competition. The
Restaurant has been open for many years with highly
experienced staff, from the maitre d' to the chefs and
silver-service waiters and waitresses. The menus for
both lunch and dinner boast a wide selection of
international and fine English cuisine, while the Sunday
Carvery is excellent. We strongly recommend that
you visit the Meridian Restaurant during your stay.
Guests with more time can choose from light meals and
refreshments including high quality afternoon teas and a
brunch selection.
