The Chesterfield, Mayfair, W1
Just off Berkeley Square,
Mayfair, within equal distance from Green Park and Bond Street
tube stations, one of London's most beautiful (and most
expensive!) quarters is home to the Chesterfield, a classically
English four-star hotel. On the doorstep, you'll find a treasure
trove of
top London attractions: Bond Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly,
Burlington Arcade, the Royal Academy of Arts and Green Park are
just a few. A little further, but still within walking distance,
are the theatres and restaurants, the nightclubs, Hyde Park,
Speakers' Corner, and Buckingham Palace.
TripAdvisor named the
Chesterfield "Best Performing Hotel in Britain 2008", which will
be of no surprise to past visitors. The interior of the hotel is
warm, inviting and comfortable, classically English mixed with
modern comfort. Staff is at guests' beck and call throughout
their stay, beauty therapists and masseurs are on call day and
night to provide in-room treatment, while the nearby Natura Day
Spa is available to hotel guests at a discount. Each of the rooms and suites
is individually and distinctively decorated, yet all ooze
classical Englishness, style and comfort, while providing 21st
century facilities in the form of satellite TV, complimentary
high-speed internet, round-the-clock room service and everything
else you may expect from a four-star hotel. Some of the suites
offer added luxury in the form of four-poster beds, Jacuzzi
baths, or separate lounge areas.
The Chesterfield's Terrace Bar
is a great venue for to have a special drink, socialise and
relax to live piano music, whereas the Conservatory is the
perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. A
traditional English roast, pre-theatre meal, or à la carte lunch
or dinner experience is available at the formal but intimate
Butler's restaurant.

Deluxe rooms provide even more space, comfort and

Miller's Residence,
Notting Hill, W2
Miller's Residence is a
small, slightly bohemian, but luxurious and very
romantic 18th century style salon hotel in fashionable
Notting Hill, close to trendy Portobello Road, Hyde Park
and Kensington Gardens.
Notting Hill Gate and
Bayswater Underground stations are within walking
distance. Further public transport links across London
and to Heathrow Airport are provided via nearby
Paddington rail and Underground station.
The communal drawing room
of this quirky salon hotel is covered in rugs, furnished
with comfy sofas around a fireplace and antiques, and
everywhere you look are books, pictures, candles and
other little decorations.
Romantic clutter, put
together so perfectly by owner and antiques specialist
Martin Miller (author of "Miller's Antiques Guide"),
that this hotel over the years has drawn in many
artists, photographers, fashionistas, and, naturally,
hopeless romantics.
Narrow staircases lead to
8 guest rooms and salons, none of them numbered, instead
each of them named after an English poet. All rooms have
ensuite bathrooms.
There is no room service,
and Miller's only offers bed & breakfast (and
complimentary evening drinks in the drawing room), but
there are plenty of restaurants and pubs in the
vicinity.
The hotel does provide
services like theatre bookings, dinner reservations,
laundry services, radio, TV and broadband internet.
Service is personal and
informal, making Miller's a true home away from home.

No. 5 Maddox Street,
Mayfair, W1
No. 5 Maddox Street in
Mayfair, off Regent Street, is a hip and funky urban
retreat, within walking distance of Oxford Street, Regent
Street, Bond Street and Savile Row shopping, West End
theatre land and Soho nightlife. Numerous Underground
stations in the vicinity provide transport links out of the
area.
Instead of 'just rooms', No.
5 hosts twelve contemporary self-contained serviced
apartments, each made up of lounge, workstation, (stocked!)
kitchen, bathroom and between one and three bedrooms. This
means guests enjoy the space and independence of a cutting
edge pied-a-terre, combined with all the luxury facilities
and services imaginable from a five-star hotel.
Guests arrive to a welcome
tray with snacks, fruit and drinks, and fully (organically)
stocked fridge. All suites come fully furnished and equipped
and supplied with high-end technology, air-conditioning,
luxury linens and sumptuous toiletries.
No. 5's facilities and
services include but do not end at concierge services,
dry-cleaning services, laundry service, in-room dining,
in-room massages, maid service, porterage, private gym
membership, room service and CD/DVD library.
Although every suite comes
with its own kitchen, No. 5 also incorporates its own bar
and restaurant where guests can choose to wine and dine,
unless of course they prefer the staff to personally serve
them in their suites!
The mentioned bar offers
health foods and drinks as well as indulgent treats, while
the 'Patara' restaurant serves à la carte Thai cuisine. And
although Maddox Street itself is reasonably quiet, the
surrounding streets buzz with an eclectic mix of trendy bars
and restaurants.

The Sanderson Hotel,
Mayfair, W1
Morgan Hotels each come with
their own musical soundtrack, to mark how special they
are. The Sanderson Hotel in London's Mayfair presents itself
as a "lavish urban spa with modern sex appeal". Among the
historic buildings with classic interiors in its area, on
the Mayfair/Soho borders, this building with its
modernist-sleek, functional-yet-stylish, in places almost
surreal and sterile Philippe Starck interior, appears almost
'out of place' in its surroundings, yet paradoxically that
might just make this extraordinary hotel the jewel in
London's cosmopolitan crown, located just off Oxford Street,
at equal distance from Oxford Circus, Goodge Street and
Tottenham Court Underground stations, not far from the very
many West End theatres, clubs, bars, restaurants and shops
and the British Museum.
The Sanderson's interior is
entirely open-plan, its surfaces are light and shiny,
different areas are only separated by translucent curtains
or glass. The walls are bare and any paintings are hung on
the ceilings instead, while each item of furniture seems a
piece of art. This cool design follows through in all areas,
rooms and suites of the hotel, meaning the ensuite bathrooms
inside the guest rooms, suites and apartments are
transparent glass boxes. Still, the paintings on the
ceilings, the 'swan' shaped chairs, the 'sleigh' shaped
beds, and the balconies with their leafy plants give a
breath of calm and romance. The meeting rooms are
functionally businesslike without distractions. The
Courtyard Garden and Billiard Room are oases of stunning
beauty.
Restaurant Suka serves modern
world cuisine, inspired by Asia, which makes for a
positively eclectic menu. The Long Bar and the Purple Bar
are exactly what their names tell you they are, serving
cocktails, Champagne, and a choice of Martinis. The Agua Spa
provides an all-white centre of delightful relaxing
treatments.
